The Ugly Truth About Natural Skincare Products

Do you read the ingredient labels of the food you buy? Pet food? Cleaning products?

What about your skin care products? Can you honestly say that you know what is in the lotion you put on every day?

If you do - hats off to you!

If not don’t stress, most people don’t. Heck, we just started to read labels coming up with the idea for Liv Jenntly. It’s all too easy today to see the words “natural”, “small batch”, or “no dyes” on products and blissfully assume the product is just that.

Well turns out most aren’t.

Once we started reading (or at least tried to read) ingredient labels, we realized there were still SO MANY of things listed we had never heard of; words we couldn’t even pronounce. And the products with that kind of wording - their prices get jacked up. And up.

We got tired of being lied to. How hard could it be to make ACTUAL skin care products with SIMPLE ingredients you don’t need to be a chemist to recognize?

Well we found out.

To be fair to other companies, trying to solely use natural, simple, whole ingredients doesn’t always make a pretty product.

But our goal at Liv Jenntly has never been just about selling products - but to build a brand that consumers can trust. Can believe in. With that goal we decided to be as transparent as possible with our customers; an open book.

So let’s talk about what makes Liv Jenntly’s products different.

The idea for this post came the other day looking at our newest batch of Awakening Citrus & Coffee scrubs. There it was - staring us in the face - an imperfection; white amongst the dark brown coffee. The culprit? None other than Raw Virgin Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil is the base for this scrub. When making our favorite scrub we use the coconut oil in liquid form. This makes it MUCH easier to mix (Believe us, solid does NOT mix well). Liquid coconut oil also melts some of the coffee grounds which gives it that beautiful bold aroma. The mix is poured into containers, capped and sealed and left to cool.

And cool it did, leaving some jars with bits of solid coconut oil right through the clear plastic container.

Instinctively, we started discussing the best way to “fix” it. But truth was, the product was perfect (we test every batch before selling) so what is there to fix? A little imperfection?

Nope. We love our imperfections and never want to hide them from our consumers. Instead we want to show them off and prove Liv Jenntly truly is a one-of-a-kind skin care company.
